$0.00
NFS

Still, ink on paper, 12x16 inches, 2020

Artist Statement

I make drawings and paintings at the intersection of artistic and contemplative practice, using patterns to consider attention and embodiment. "Observation" functions both on the level of responding to the physical and intuitive senses and as a devotional practice. My work provides a model for shifts in attention: from the tonal fields of a piece in its entirety to the particularities of small areas of mark-making. Reading, writing, and sketchbook practice reinforce my interest in the ways lines can be arranged on a surface to convey personal and communal meaning and translate emotion, from a child’s scribbles to sacred texts.

Artist Bio

Lynnette Therese Sauer is a visual artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA in painting from the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis, IN. Recent group exhibitions include Ethan Cohen KuBe (Beacon, NY), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha, NE), Equity Gallery (New York, NY), Ground Floor Gallery (Brooklyn, NY), and Indiana University Southeast (New Albany, IN). Her paintings and drawings use observation of patterns to consider attention, embodiment, and communion. lynnettetherese.com
