KyumBee Kim 'The Escape'

$0.00
NFS

The Escape, oil on canvas, 11x14, 2020.

Artist Statement

This painting portrays the sequence of somersault, which is a humorous ritual to escape from mundane tasks. When I feel too much from real life, I imagine myself somersaulting in a public place out of the blue. Such nonsense helps me forget about the fact for a moment and refresh my mind. The sculptural brushstrokes inside the figure on the left represent the mixed feeling caused by the dark burden surround him. Somersault, the comic action resolves the complex emotion inside him and helps him to release them out.

Artist Bio

KyumBee Kim is born and raised in South Korea and came to the States in 2018. Kim studies art and art history at State University in New York, Albany, since 2018, and she is graduating in May 2021. The artist creates oil and acrylic paintings, drawings, and a few collage pieces exploring the contrast between observational representation and abstraction. She is passionate about the relation between linguistic elements from weather charts, traffic signs, and similar graphics and human experiences.
