Cynthia Mason 'Particles: Pastoral View'

$0.00
NFS

‘Particles: Pastoral View’, Linen, porcelain, oil paint, blue ballpoint pen, shredded documents, apoxie, thread, grommets, 10 x 11 x 3 inches 2020

Artist Statement

In this work, structure becomes the subject. The materials—linen, porcelain, shredded documents—which belong to our domestic and work lives, are layered and compacted. On their surfaces, color tracks time and motion. Internally, shredded documents act as filler for the events being rendered. The fragile porcelain grids rely on the soft painted linen forms for support. I am interested in turning these painted forms inside out, a makeshift solution using everyday materials.

Artist Bio

Trained as an architect and fascinated by the overlap and edges of topographies, Cynthia Mason makes soft sculpture paintings and mixed media constructions that scramble the spatial and material codes of painting and sculpture. Mason’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the U.S.. Mason received her MFA from USF and BFA from Ringling College. She is the recipient of a Professional Artists Grant from Creative Pinellas, an Honorable Mention in the Visual Arts by CAA, two Florida Artist Enhancement Grants and been awarded numerous artist residences. She lives in St Petersburg, Florida.
