Artist statement

I am interested in the perplexing nature of our closest relationships. I explore the complexities and confusions that surround intimacy, the dynamics of vulnerability, and the areas where our preconceived notions fall short. I want to balance how to give voice to these difficult and heavy ideas while also finding beauty. My recent work approaches motherhood from within this framework, confronting the ramifications of the transformation into “mother” and the simultaneous shift in her relationship to herself, time, and mortality. This portrait in a fogged mirror depicts bodies converging. Taken amidst sleepless sick days in a steamy bathroom, it is a self portrait of my relationships and the blurring boundaries between myself and my children.
