$8,000.00

2023
Clay, glaze, red iron oxide, graphite, sprayed black slip

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Ceramic artist from Harare, Zimbabwe, focusing on utilizing diverse clay mediums for expressive and investigative purposes. My work pushes the boundaries of conventional function and utilitarian norms, capturing experiences across different environments. I have coined the term "Vesptures" to encapsulate the essence of my work, which seamlessly blends vessel and sculpture into a singular, thought-provoking entity.

My work is defined by its versatile functionality and its transformative impact on both aesthetics and practicality. I am committed to exploring the fusion of ceramic sculpture and traditional Zimbabwean pottery within contemporary narratives, resulting in vessels that challenge perceptions of African womanhood in modern contexts.

Additionally, I actively experiment with smoke-firing and glazing techniques to imbue my work with depth and symbolism. My work serves as a visual representation of skillfully intertwined iconography and symbolism. Through my Vesptures, I aim to provoke contemplation and convey experiences, utilizing these forms as powerful tools for expression and communication.

The organic, rounded forms of my work serve as vessels of meaning, inviting viewers to engage with the significance of such forms. I am resolutely dedicated to reshaping perceptions of traditional ceramics from my culture, boldly challenging cultural diversity, and showcasing the limitless potential my way of making can accomplish.
