Morgane Richer La Fleche "Little Lost Party Princess"

$0.00
NFS

Acrylic on canvas, 14x11 inches, 2021, $400

Artist Statement

These paintings are from an ongoing series celebrating the party as a space of creative destruction and ritual. The works present the partygoer as a character in an improvised performance. The earlier paintings are atomized fantasies belonging to the individual; as the series progresses, group scenes develop around seasonal cues and moments of shared delirium. I paint from phone pictures taken during parties, often texted to me by friends the next day.

Artist Bio

Morgane Richer La Flèche (Canadian, b.1992) is a self-taught artist based in New York. She works primarily in watermedia and pastels; she also writes and produces hand-painted video-poems. Her paintings are ornamented dreamscapes that tie visual sweetness to material and emotional decadence, in an attitude of both celebration and parody. A recurring cast of naïve figures, florals and fairytale animals float in ethereal compositions drawn from lyric poetry, French literature, Catholicism, and personal memory. By combining her own language of decorative symbols with elements of rococo, she plays with both the pleasures and dangers of indulgence and romantic excess, of interiority and solipsism.
