Stella Ebner "Making Starry Night"

$0.00
NFS

Screenprint on Japanese paper/ 35” X 50”/ 2014/ $4500

Artist Statement

In my work, I draw from contemporary American life with an emphasis on the moments that are left outside the picture frame  the overlooked, the forgotten. I am seeking to discover the imagery that defines us - images of spaces, events and moments that are so ubiquitous they are largely ignored. Observation is at the core of my work and how though careful observation and attention, we become deeply connected to the world around us. One moment becomes tangible and important when viewed, inspected and recounted. I work with drawings, screen prints, handprinted woodblock prints, and watercolor monoprints. I am interested in printmaking as process—a set of translations from one surface to another through which information is lost, altered, distilled and/or refined. This slow process of translation from one media to another, observing mark, color and form, is contemplative and transformative. I am drawn to how through this process these moments become elevated.
