Raymie Iadevaia 'I carry this walk with my hands'

$0.00
NFS

Drawer 2- I carry this walk with my hands, colored pencil and watercolor on paper, 11.5" x 15," 2019

Artist Statement

Like a cat brushing its head on people and places, I paint to get closer to the textures of the world. I am interested in creating spaces for contemplation: colorful surfaces morphing into keys to unlock, masks to be worn, worlds to travel, moods to feel. My process is like cooking: working over the heat of the flame melding and mashing ingredients, to conjure and discover the image. The sparkling stewed surface simmers and stirs into a space hoping to mesmerize and sate. I try to impart the paintings with the energies of the mixed ingredients: prismatic colors, the gestures of my hand, the images of memory and imagination—the forest, the ocean, the dream, burning suns, remembered rooms, luminous faces, fuzzy patterns, dappled light—transfixing toward crescendo.

Artist Bio

Raymie Iadevaia is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. Using a variety of materials, the staining of watercolor, rubbed in passages of colored pencils, thick layers of impasto oil paint, Raymie is interested in creating spaces for contemplation, allowing color to fill emotional spaces within the body. Raymie received a BFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts and an MFA from Art Center College of Design. Raymie has exhibited work in Los Angeles, New York, Switzerland, Berlin, and Japan.
