Maria Britton 'Covid Times 2'

$0.00
NFS

Drawer 1- Untitled (Covid Times 2), Acrylic, bed sheets, and thread, 15.5 by 9 inches, 2020

Artist Statement

My work explores notions of femininity and feminism, high and low forms of art making, and dreams and disasters. Used patterned bed sheets have been my chosen primary material for over a decade. The surface of a bed is a place where one both experiences and escapes reality, a gateway between two realms. Combining painting and sewing, I modify and disrupt the familiar patterns of everyday to create defiantly not square paintings in favor of fluid forms. While painting, I work impulsively and intuitively, responding to the familiar floral patterns before me while also referencing fragmented floral imagery that I either remember or imagine. My work is a material exploration of the immaterial.
