Genevieve Lowe 'August'

$0.00
NFS

Drawer 3- August, 2020 Archival Pigment Print 12 x 16” Edition of 3

Artist Statement

Amidst the global challenges of adapting to the Anthropocene, I find it increasingly distressing to conceptualize an optimistic vision of the future which also perpetuates of our historical tendency to center the human as the top of the hierarchy. Instead, I try to manifest an alternative existence that engages our surroundings with a respect for the ¨thing-power¨ (as Jane Bennet calls it) inherent in all material objects. This recognition of the material energy inherent in all things regardless of their title as animate or inanimate allows us to re-contextualize our awareness of Self as an Ecological Self.

Artist Bio

Genevieve Lowe was born and raised in Idaho and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. Genevieve received her BA from Colorado College in 2006 and her MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design in 2013. Genevieve’s work revolves around conceptions of the American landscape; utilizing a variety of materials from printmaking to photography to sculpture to explore its different representations. Her work has been shown at various spaces throughout the United States, including David Krut Projects, Sediment Arts, Trestle Gallery and The Wassaic Project.
