STATEMENT

Reconnecting with the imagery that brought joy to my childhood is one of  my biggest creative inspirations. When rediscovering an old toy, or a favorite  picture book, a sense of nostalgia rushes over me. For a moment, I am able to put  aside any troubling thoughts and remember a simpler time. Even as the struggles of  present day return to my mind, the childhood imagery still sits with me. I think  about how these different characters and color palettes influenced who I am today,  even the memories that had previously slipped my mind. In my art making, I  intend to transfer the yearning for these feelings by utilizing these familiar motifs  to tell my own story.

BIO

Emily Malott is a ceramic and sculptural artist based in Cincinnati, OH.  Malott earned her BFA in Spatial Arts from Northern Kentucky University in 2019,  and has since worked as an art instructor through multiple organizations in the  greater Cincinnati area.
